Loretta’s abstract paintings and drawings stem from her natural surroundings and most currently from her imagination. She uses texture, line, color and glazing to create compositions that create a sense of place and evoke a certain mood.
“Taking Flight: A Collection of Abstracted Spirit Paintings”
The soaring bird signifies illumination and empowerment. It ushers in fortune and luck, and it represents purity, elegance, opportunity, and victory. Stride said she feels they are a symbol of where she is in her life right now.
In these new paintings, Stride started with an image of a soaring bird or birds. The images are not an exact replica of a bird but are more remembrances of how a bird looks while soaring.
She uses color and texture to create a sense of place and mood, while always staying conscious of the tension colors and line create in a composition. Stride started her paintings with an intention of the mood and colors she wants to use to create in the larger paintings. She uses these as a jumping-off point, and most often the paintings take a different turn, but always she tries to stay true to the original intention.
